The 4th Journey Partnership is the name of the initiative of campuses in the Upper Midwest Region to establish an on-going ministry at a university in a predominantly Muslim country. In this Middle Eastern country, 99 percent of the 75 million people consider themselves Muslims. Since the Koran teaches that Jesus is an honorable prophet but not God, most have never heard the truth about Him. Despite a guarantee of religious freedom written into this country's constitution, the scarce number of known Christians (about 2,000) sometimes experience harassment and even persecution.
In 2008 we pioneered a new partnership city with a campus of about 45,000 students. As far as we were aware, at that time, there were no known believers on this campus. However, many students are eager to work on their English and be friends with an American. When asked, most of them also want to discuss belief in Jesus.
This particular campus is one of the top five respected schools in the country and stands as a gateway to the more fundamental Muslim part of the country. It also offers an excellent English program, which in turn eases communication between our short-term American staff and a good number of English speakers. We envision this campus to be a hub for reaching three other nearby universities that have virtually no influence for Christ.
We encourage your prayers and encourage your participation in the effort to take the Gospel back to where the church was first established almost 2,000 years ago.
Attendance at a pre-briefing conference in Minneapolis, MN April 9-11 is mandatory.
